In order to become part of the MOC team, there are a few things that you need to do…

  • Subscribe to the MOC team mailing list by sending a “Plain text” email message to majordomo@bu.edu with the following line in the email message section and NOT in the Subject line.

Alternatively, you can also use the following command: unsubscribe moc-team-list@bu.edu

Without putting your email address will let majordomo unsubscribe the sender from the named list if the sender sent the mail from exactly the address he was subscribed to.

If you cannot use the command line to subscribe to the moc-team-list@bu.edu mailing list, do the following steps.

  • Open your Gmail
  • Compose an email
  • Click the upside-down triangle
  • Click “Plain Text Mode”
  • Put majordomo@bu.edu in the “To:” of the email
  • Put “subscribe moc-team-list@bu.edu piyanai@bu.edu” in the body of the email (Remember to not include the double quotes!)
  • Press Send!

If you have successfully subscribed to the you will receive the following email with the following in the body.

  • Add your name and contact information at [this URL] (contacts/People.html)

  • Trello : Send mail to piyanai@bu.edu with your Trello user name and you will be added to the appropriate organization.

  • Team calendars : We use Google calendars as a collaboration tool. We have the following calendars

    MOC team wide meetings

    MOC - Engineers MOC engineers and embedded engineers’ office hours, OpenStack meetings that engineers attend on regular basis, etc.

    MOC - Interns interns/students’ hours working as part of the MOC.

Please share your the time slots when you plan to spend time in the MOC and/or on the MOC related projects. Send a request to piyanai@bu.edu to be added to the appropriate calendar.

  • Get familiar with OpenStack, github, Python and Red Hat Enterprise software

    OpenStack : There are many tutorials online for OpenStack. Going over the official getting start guide can be helpful. The MOC team tutorial on how to use our production system can be found at [Getting started wiki] (how-tos/Getting-started.html)

    Python : You may want to consider using iPython or other interactive Python tool to learn to code in Python. Similar to OpenStack, there are quite a few online tutorials. The official Python site is here.

    github : If you are not already familiar with github, you can start at its official site for the “how-to”.

  • MOC Individual Contributor License Agreement (ICLA) Contributor to the MOC are required to sign the Individual Contributor Agreement. Send Jennifer Stacy (jstacy@bu.edu) a quick note when you are done with this step. Note that you will not be allowed to contribute to any code base unless you sign the agreement.

  • Team Communication

** Standup : the MOC team is an Agile team. Twice a week, Tues. and Thur., we have standup at 12:30pm in the MOC team room. Face-to-face communication is best. However, if you cannot attend in person, you can dial in

  • Stipend

    BU students, send mail to Jennifer Stacy and Cheryl Endicott (cheryle@bu.edu) with your BU ID and your full name (first/last). This is to take care of your pay.

    Northeastern University Students, contact Prof. Peter Desnoyer (pjd@ccs.neu.edu)

If you are a Northeastern Student and have been in contact with Jennifer Stacy/Cheryl Endicott, you need do to the following steps when instructed to do so.

  • Fill out the first part of the I-9
  • Create a BU login
  • Go to Human Resources on Human Resources at 25 Buick Street, 2nd floor
  • Get instructions on how to fill in the second part of the 1-9

Then you should be able to enter your hours to be approved to received your compensation.

  • NU MOC access :

A user account for accessing the production environment. Send mail to moc-kaizen-l@bu.edu with your full name, your project and ssh public key. If you don’t already have the ssh public key, Step 1 and 2 of this URL has a good set of instruction. Send email to moc-kaizen-l@bu.edu, if you have any problem.

The current production access is the MIT CSAIL production. The HU MOC production had been disabled and no longer available.
